Still "Outside the Box"

I've finished yet another sidewalk view, this one the light is early morning headed to the beach. It's currently in a members exhibit at the Rehoboth Beach Art League.

Pursuing the Dream

Yesterday I had the opportunity to participate in a great one day exhibit in Rehoboth sponsored by the Rehoboth Beach Mainstreet hosted at the beautiful Bellmoor Inn. The exhibit was titled Facades. Featuring dontown Rehoboth's beautiful cottages and streetscapes. There was beautiful work on display. In past years the Rehoboth Art League held a Plein Air event. This year the Art League took a break but fortunately the weekend still held for great fun. With the Plein Air spirit in mind I wanted to purse my new emerging style. I was so grateful for the roof over my head on Saturday...it's been raining non-stop! I completed "Sidewalk Stroll down Brookly Ave" at 9pm Saturday night. It went wet to the exhibit yesterday morning and it sold before the show opened - what a thrill! Time to get stated on the next project.

Stepin' outside the box

I finally completed 2 pieces of Art due for a show tomorrow! They will be apart of an Exhibit titled LottoHEART hosted by CAMP Rehoboth, for a fundraiser. They will be sold for $100, all participating artists where required to create two original, unframed 5 x 7 inch works in any medium. The only catch is that the identity of the artist will not be known by the buyer until after the purchase.

I'm excited to go to the preview reception at CAMP Rehoboth, July 27th. I'm sure all the work presented on display will be no short of amazing!

Because all work needed to be anonymous; therefore no signature on the face, I wanted to try and recapture the emerging plein air style from work done last summer. It's really not new to me...I always color block each painting before going back and working in the detail. The difference is not adding the detail, keeping suggestions of shapes and relationships of color.

I had a lot of fun and am looking forward to starting the next painting tomorrow which is due next weekend for yet another Exhibit!

Awakening the Spirit Within

Last year I received a Fellowship Grant from the Delaware Division of he Arts. It provided me provided me with the most valued creative opportunity. I participated in a 3 day Plein Air workshop sponsored by the Rehoboth Art League, taught by Larry Horowitz - this was my first painting workshop. The instructor was wonderful in that he encouraged us to push out of our “comfort zone” and experiment. What I admired most was the fact that he never applied his artist style on the students. The first 2 days of the workshop were very difficult for me; I was trying to apply my studio technique in the field. I realized by painting one subject multiple times the Plein Air style I was searching for emerged on it’s own! I have a newly found simplified style for capturing the fleeting moments on location. Prior to the workshop I was extremely frustrated with most of my Plein Air work.

"Leap of Faith"

It was in February of 2006 that my husband, Ron and I took a leap of faith and followed our dreams to be near the beach. I realized that “you only go around once”. The key was finding the courage, staying focused, it will happen.

My primary focus is our natural environment of Delmarva. The earth is our home and we need to take note of what we have. I want to express my excitement over the incredible things I am so fortunate to encounter. I hope in some way through my art I can help promote and protect our natural wonder and the place I now call home.

Surfing is important to both me and Ron: he rides the waves, while I remain on shore, preferring my paintbrush to capture the energy of the water and the sense of “spiritual oneness” the surfers have with the waves. "Surfboards as Fine Art" is a dream come true. They make an exciting alternative to the traditional canvas because of the variety in size and shape.

My first design of an elaborate Mermaid lead me to the master craftsman and shaper Michael Hague. His boards are crafted to the highest standards. These boards are fully functional and ready to take the waves, and when not in use will greatly enhance the inside of a home or office.
